After 4 months of planning and hard work, we are super excited to announce the launch of Brave Savings!
In the spring, I was studying for standardized testing when covid hit and we went into lockdown. All of my exams were cancelled and the chances of finding a summer job were very low. In addition, my family and I were in the process of moving, so we had a lot going on.
As part of the move we needed to buy new furniture. My father, who is an essential worker, found out that he could get a discount on sofas from Lovesac. I was curious as to how he could get this discount. He told me that when he called Lovesac to order the sofa, he was told about the discount for first responders and essential workers. It made me wonder if there were any other companies offering discounts to first responders/essential workers, which led me to investigate through google searches to find out.
It turns out that there are a lot of companies that have benefits for essential workers: teachers, firefighters, police officers, military, doctors, nurses, etc… I thought it was so cool how these companies stepped up during the pandemic to offer discounts for the people risking their lives on the frontlines of this pandemic. This gave me the idea to start Brave Savings in order to further assist first responders to find discounts.
I became passionate about this project because I got excited to work for myself and to build something to help others at the same time. I have always been interested in web development and programming. Brave Savings was a fantastic opportunity to put both of those passions together. I was surprised at all of the steps that it took to get the website going. I have learned a lot along the way. From web development to the managerial aspects of running a business, I’m sure I’ll use these skills for the rest of my life. In addition to giving offers to first responders, I would like to share my experience of what it took to bring this business to life. Over my next few blog posts, I’m going to go through the steps I took with my friends to get Brave Savings launched.
To get Brave Savings off the ground we had to…
- Find a catchy good name
- Design a logo and tagline
- Define the requirements for the website
- Find a developer to build the website
- Figure out how the website will make money so that we can donate to first responder causes
- Compile offers from popular brands like: Vineyard Vines, Champs, Foot Locker… among others
I’m looking forward to our next steps, which include:
- Getting the word out
- Online advertisements
- And building a social media presence.
We’re just so excited to be going live now with great offers from over 100 brands and we hope that you are able to take advantage of these BRAVE SAVINGS that we’ve found for military, first responders, educators and essential personnel!
